Description
Solway House is a building dating from around 1830, originally constructed as a hotel to serve the passenger traffic on the nearby Carlisle Canal. It features painted stucco with V-jointed quoins and a moulded cornice, topped by a graduated greenslate roof and ashlar chimney stacks. The structure has two storeys and five bays. The entrance includes a plank door with a painted-over patterned fanlight and a prostyle Ionic porch. The windows are two-pane sash types set in raised painted stone surrounds. There are outbuildings at the rear, but they are not of interest.
