Description
Demesne Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the late 17th century or early 18th century, with some alterations made in the early 19th century. It features whitewashed sandstone rubble walls, some of which are made from stone sourced from the nearby castle. The roof is covered in Welsh slate and has 20th-century brick chimney stacks. The building is two storeys high and consists of three bays, which have been extended by two additional bays under a common roof.
The entrance includes a 20th-century door set in a quoined surround. There are two-pane sash windows with plain stone surrounds, while earlier two-light flat stone mullioned windows have been blocked. Smaller fire windows on both floors at the extreme left have also been blocked. The extension on the right has 20th-century windows in 20th-century openings. The farmhouse is situated within the perimeter of a Roman Fort and is listed partly for its group value with the nearby castle. The listing does not include the farm outbuildings.
