Description
Crew Castle is a sheep pen that was formerly a bastle house, mentioned in 1583 as the residence of Will Noble. The structure is built from large blocks of calciferous sandstone rubble, resting on projecting plinth stones, and features large flush quoins. The walls are over 1.5 meters thick and stand to the height of the ground floor only. The south entrance has large jamb stones, while the north entrance is now blocked. The south and west walls likely contain gun loops, which are circular in section at their narrowest point and splayed on the outer wall. The north and east walls are covered with demolition rubble on the outside, and the floor has been concreted over. The listing excludes adjoining pens.
