Description

Bastle House is a structure dating from the late 16th century or early 17th century, built from grey calciferous sandstone rubble. It features three extremely thick walls on the ground floor, which are remnants of a former two-storey house. The fourth wall has been rebuilt and includes original chamfered and rebated jambs, with a drawbar tunnel that forms the current entrance. An interior dividing wall is a later addition, and the end wall appears to have been gabled, likely for use as a shieling hut. At the time of the survey, the building was in a ruinous condition.
