Description
The Former Horse and Farrier Inn is a house that was once a public house, dating from the late 17th century or early 18th century. It features whitewashed sandstone rubble walls and a steeply pitched roof made of corrugated iron, likely originally thatched, with bargeboard gables and eaves. The building is a single storey with three bays, and there is a 19th-century single-bay extension to the right under a common roof. The front facade has a 20th-century door in a plain stone surround, with no windows present. The rear wall includes 19th-century two-pane sash windows in plain stone surrounds, with the extreme right window having a chamfered surround that is likely original, along with one other blocked original window. Inside, there are two original full crucks in the central room. A 20th-century breeze block extension is not included in the listing. The road in front of the house was once the main route to Clattering Ford, which has since been bypassed. At the time of the survey, the building was empty and in a derelict state.
