Description
The Ash is a farmhouse dated 1738, built for the Greenwell family, and incorporates earlier architectural features. It is constructed from squared and coursed calciferous sandstone rubble, set on a chamfered plinth with raised V-jointed quoins, a string course, and a plain cornice. The rear extension is partly made of brick on stone with ashlar quoins. The roof is covered with Welsh slate and features coped gables and kneelers, with one chimney stack made of stone and another rebuilt in brick.
The building has two storeys and five bays, with a T-shaped extension at the rear. The entrance features a 20th-century door set in a moulded architrave with a segmental moulded pediment that includes a segmental glazed fanlight. The date is displayed in two parts on either side of the entrance. The windows are 2-pane sashes set in moulded stone architraves. The right side wall has two small blocked attic windows, and the rear wall has a similar blocked window on the second floor. An out-shut to the right includes a reused 17th-century moulded kneeler. The rear extension has a 20th-century glazed porch and 20th-century windows, along with a small square ground floor window with a chamfered surround. Outbuildings are excluded from the listing.
