Description
A former dovecote dating to the late 18th or early 19th century, situated north of Bunkershill. The dovecote is constructed of mixed river cobbles and red sandstone rubble, with a graduated Welsh slate roof and glover. It has a circular plan and is two storeys high. A plank door is located on the ground floor, and there is a loft to the rear. The roof was re-slated in the early 1970s, and the glover is fitted with louvred wooden slats. The interior retains its original brick boulins, which would have supported approximately 500 nests. Further details can be found in the publication Cumberland & Westmorland Antiquarian & Archaeological Society, old series, ix, pp424-5.
