Description

A row of five houses built in the 19th century, with later alterations. The houses are faced with incised stucco on a plinth, with a rusticated finish to the ground floor. A sill band runs along the first floor, and there's a string course separating the first and second floors, topped by a cavetto moulding under the eaves. The roofs are covered in slate, with hipped designs on the end houses (number 1 and number 5), which slightly project. Stone chimneys are positioned mid-way along and at the ends of the row.

The houses are three storeys high. Numbers 1 and 5 are identical in design, with a symmetrical three-bay facade featuring a central door. Flanked on either side are stone-mullioned windows, each with three semicircular-headed lights and sash windows. Number 2 is also symmetrical, with three bays and a central door, and sash windows. Numbers 3 and 4 are mirror images of each other, each with two bays featuring a door and sash windows. All the front doors are panelled, set within corniced Tuscan doorcases. Some of the windows have glazing bars. The first-floor windows are taller than those on the ground floor. The ground floor windows of numbers 2 to 4 have pediment-shaped details above them; the bay above the front door in number 2 slightly projects and has an architrave framing the first-floor window.
