Description

Lanehead and adjoining barns are a farmhouse and barns located in Sebergham, with the farmhouse dated and inscribed over an interior doorway as I. & A.S. 1688. The building features an early 18th-century extension and barns from the late 18th century or early 19th century. The walls are made of mixed red and yellow sandstone rubble, topped with a graduated greenslate roof that includes bottom courses of sandstone slates. The gables are coped, with kneelers and rendered chimney stacks. The farmhouse is two storeys high and consists of three bays, with a lower single-bay cement-rendered section to the right. The barns are lower and adjoin the rear of the farmhouse in an L-shape, creating an overall U-shape that encloses the farmyard on three sides. The main entrance features a glazed and panelled door set in a heavy bolection architrave beneath a cornice. The windows are sash types set in stone surrounds, with Yorkshire-sash windows to the right. The barns have plank doors in segmental arches, and the barn closest to the house has a buttressed rear wall. The barn facing the farmhouse includes a central through cart entrance flanked by segmental-arched doorways. A brick extension enclosing the farmyard and additional 20th-century extensions to the barns are not of interest.
