Description
Crookholme Mill is a disused watermill dating from the late 18th century or early 19th century. It is constructed of mixed sandstone rubble and river cobbles, featuring flush red sandstone quoins on a chamfered plinth. The building has a hipped roof made of graduated greenslate and stands two storeys high with two bays in an L-shape, including an extension to the left. There are steps leading up to a half-plank door set in a stone surround beneath a slated loading porch. The mill has metal casement windows with horizontal metal bars. To the right, there is a stone-slated wheel house that covers the mill race and contains the metal remains of an undershot wheel. Much of the internal machinery is still present. At the time of the survey, the mill was derelict and unoccupied.
