Description
Borrans Hill Farmhouse and the adjoining barn are former agricultural buildings dated 1716, as indicated by the inscription above the cross-passage entrance. The farmhouse is constructed from painted sandstone rubble and features a graduated greenslate roof with sandstone slates on the lower courses. The barn has a sandstone-slate roof, with Welsh slate used for its extension.
The farmhouse is two stories high and has two bays, with a lower L-shaped barn to the right. A 20th-century door is set in a chamfered surround beneath the dated lintel. On the ground floor, there is a two-light flat stone-mullioned window, which was originally a four-light window, along with a similar two-light window to the left and above, all fitted with 20th-century casements. There is a blocked fire window to the left of the entrance and a Yorkshire sash window on the upper floor to the left, which has replaced a two-light stone-mullioned window.
Inside, the farmhouse features a heck partition and a fire beam, with stone steps leading to the first floor in the outshut at the rear. The barn includes plank doors, lofts, slit vents, and two small windows, along with a large projecting cart entrance to the right. The barn extension has a plank door and a small opening above. A corrugated woodshed adjoining the barn and a single-storey outbuilding to the left of the house are not of interest.
