Description
The curtain walls surrounding Rose Castle date from the early 14th century. They are constructed from large blocks of coursed red sandstone and feature a chamfered plinth on the east and south sides. The north-east wall is supported by segmental vaulted arches. Originally, these walls enclosed Rose Castle, but they have been interrupted by outbuildings in the south-west corner. In the early 19th century, the walls were reduced in height and received 19th-century coping. There are remains of a watch tower on the north-east wall. A gateway in the wall is listed separately. The curtain walls have group value with Rose Castle.
