Description

Rose Bridge is a road bridge over the River Caldew, built in the early 19th century. It is constructed from a mix of calciferous and red sandstone blocks. The bridge features a narrow design with three segmental arches supported by splayed cutwaters. A string course runs along the bridge, and it has a solid parapet that projects over the cutwaters to create pedestrian passing places. An earlier bridge was washed away in 1803. The parapet has the central date of 1828 and the initials IB inscribed on it, although this is likely not the actual date of construction.
