Description
The Globe Hotel is a building located on Duke Street, likely dating from the mid-19th century and has undergone alterations. It stands three storeys tall and features a broad, squat portico supported by two round Roman Doric columns with a cornice. The ground floor has three 12-paned sash windows, while each upper floor contains four sash windows, although the glazing bars have been removed. To the right, there is a taller three-storey wing added later, which has two windows on each floor and a cornice supported by paired brackets, along with corner pilasters. There is a large round hood over a blocked entrance to the right. The facade facing Strand Street is mostly modern. The Globe Hotel is part of a group that includes Nos 4, 5, the Co-operative Store, Whittle's Furniture store, and Nos 105 and 105A.
