Description
The Central Hotel, built in 1814, is located at 104 Duke Street and incorporates Nos 23 and 24 New Street. The Duke Street side features three high storeys and five bays, with a right-hand gable stack. The building is rendered and has rusticated stone quoins. The central entrance has a moulded doorcase with a cornice and pediment, accessed by steps with an iron balustrade. There are two flanking sash windows on the ground floor, five sash windows on the first floor, and five half-height sashes on the second floor. The New Street elevation also has five bays and is rendered, with the fifth bay being a high gable return facing Duke Street. There is a doorway in the second bay from the left, with sash windows in the first, third, and fourth bays, close to the right-hand corner of the elevation. The first floor has four sashes in bays one to four, with half-height windows above on the second floor.
