Description
This is a house located at 31 New Street in Wigton, dated 1746 and inscribed with the initials J. & E.W. The building is constructed of painted brick and features V-jointed quoins and an eaves cornice on a chamfered plinth. It has a graduated greenslate roof with ridge brick chimney stacks. The house is two storeys high and consists of five bays, with a sixth bay over a carriage arch to the right. There are two steps leading up to a six-panel top-glazed door, which is framed by a bolection architrave and topped with a pulvinated frieze and cornice. The upper floor has sash windows, three of which on the left have glazing bars, all set within painted stone architraves. The segmental arch has an alternate block surround and voussoirs, featuring a dated and inscribed keystone.
