Description
The walls and gardener's house located north-east of Castlesteads date from the late 18th century. They are constructed of red sandstone and feature a pyramidal slate roof on the house. The high walls enclose the garden on three sides, with a two-storey, single-bay house that forms an integral part of the south-east wall. This structure is depicted next to the house in an engraving by W. Hutchinson in his 1794 work, "History of Cumberland." The building is situated directly on top of and aligned with the Roman Fort of Vxellodunum, as noted in Hutchinson's publication.
