Description

Orchard House is a house, and formerly a public house, dating to the 19th century. It likely began as a single-story cottage in the late 17th century, constructed using stone taken from the nearby Roman Wall. The building was altered in the early 19th century, with a brick first floor being added. The walls are painted rendered, with painted stone dressings, and the roof is covered in Welsh slate. It has coupled brick chimney stacks. The house has two stories and four bays. A 20th-century top-glazed panel door is set within a 20th-century wooden surround. Sash windows with glazing bars are set within stone surrounds. A former doorway was converted into a window around 1971, and one first-floor window also dates from that time. 20th-century extensions to the left and rear are not included in the listing.
