Description

Three houses forming a terrace are located on the north side of Tait Street, Carlisle. They were built in the early 1850s. The houses are constructed of Flemish bond brickwork, with light headers on numbers 25 and 27. They have a chamfered plinth with painted stone dressings, and a metal gutter supported by stone brackets. The roofs are covered with local slate, and the end chimney stacks have been rebuilt in brick.

The houses originally comprised two bays each, although numbers 25 and 27 have been separated from the rest of the terrace following the demolition of number 23. Number 29 has a higher roof line and a double-depth plan. Numbers 25 and 27 have doorways on either side of a central dividing passage, with 20th-century panelled doors leading up steps, set within brick reveals and framed by an in antis surround topped by a radial fanlight. Number 29 features a left through-passage door and a central doorway that mirrors the style of numbers 25 and 27. The windows are sash and casement types, with glazing bars on the upper floor of number 27. All windows are set in painted stone surrounds. Basement windows are lit by pavement grilles. The interiors have not been inspected.
