Description

The sundial located to the east of Abbey Cowper is a garden sundial dated 1765. It was moved to its current position from Kingside Hill in the 20th century. The sundial is made of carved red sandstone and features a squared plinth and column topped with a ball dial. The dial is carved with Roman numerals and includes the inscription "AS FLIES THE SHADE MANS LIFE DOTH FADE; WATCH AND PRAY TIME HASTE AWAY," along with other Latin inscriptions.
