Description

Fairladies Farmhouse and the adjoining barn form a single dwelling that dates to the late 18th century, as indicated by a coat of arms, although the building may have an earlier core. The arms, carved in relief on a panel above the former door to the original house, belong to James Spedding and his wife Elizabeth Harrington, who were married in 1779. The farmhouse is constructed from pebble-dashed rubble, while the barn features coursed, squared rubble with quoins and eaves moulding. Both structures have graduated slate roofs; the farmhouse has rendered mid and end chimneys, while the barn has stone copings and kneelers at the south end.

The two-storey farmhouse has six bays in total. A part-glazed door, originally leading to the cottage, is set under a gabled porch, flanked by 16-pane sash windows. A narrow 19th-century window with a hoodmould and label has replaced the original door to the house, and there is a late 18th-century window architrave to the right. Above, there are four sashes with glazing bars, and an additional lower bay has been added to the north end, featuring a single 16-pane sash on each floor. The adjoining barn, located at the south end, has an added porch for the wagon door and a hay loft door accessed by steps on the left.
