Description
This is a milestone located south of Gretna, dating from the early 19th century, which was originally part of the Carlisle-Glasgow Turnpike. It is made of red sandstone and features a cast iron plate. The stone has a curved face and a round top, with an inscription on the plate that reads "GLASGOW 86 CARLISLE 8h" in four lines. The stone is whitewashed, and the lettering is highlighted in black. There is also a benchmark on the top of the stone. Currently, this section of road is by-passed and serves only as an access road.
