Description
The Old Hall is a house dating from around 1730, with 20th-century alterations and extensions. It features rendered walls, stone dressings, and a moulded cornice, topped by a green slate roof with coped gables and rendered chimney stacks. The building is two storeys high and has three bays. The round-headed entrance includes a six-panel door with a radial fanlight, framed by a moulded surround with springers and a false keystone. The original openings contain 19th-century sash windows with glazing bars and moulded stone sills. To the right, there is a 20th-century extension that is also two storeys high and has three bays, featuring wooden 1-2-3 light casements without glazing bars. The Old Hall is located close to the site of Rockcliffe Castle, which was demolished around 1682, when the first house was built for Reverend Charles Usher.
