Description

The war memorial on the village green in Blennerhasset is a market cross that has been repurposed. It features a rebuilt plinth with a cross created by Beattie of Carlisle between 1920 and 1921. The memorial is made of red sandstone, with a carved pink granite cross on top. The original market cross's stepped plinth is now the base for the tall cross, which has an inscribed granite base. The inscription honors the men from Baggrow and Blennerhasset who died in the Great War, with an additional inscription for those who fell in World War II. The original cross socket is located nearby.
