Description

Two cottages, dated and inscribed over No. 3 with "W. & M. B. 1678 FEARE GOD", with later 19th and 20th century alterations. They have roughcast walls under a Welsh slate roof, with roughcast chimney stacks. The cottages are two storeys high under a common roof, originally each of two bays. No. 4 now includes a single-bay extension to the right under the common roof. Both cottages have 20th-century doors set in chamfered surrounds, with Tudor arches above. Above the doors are continuous hoodmoulds over casement windows where the stone mullions have been removed. Similar upper-floor windows are also under continuous hoodmoulds, though part of the hoodmould has been removed from No. 3. A 20th-century window has been inserted above the entrance to No. 3. No. 4 has small, chamfered-surround fire windows on both floors. The extension to No. 4 features chamfered-surround casement windows with glazing bars, and a right-angled, two-door shippon at the front. The interior of No. 3 retains a firebeam and a stone heck partition with recesses for a spice and salt cupboard. The rear of No. 4 has been altered with 20th-century windows, while No. 3 has a 20th-century rear extension that is not of particular interest.
