Description

6 Castlegate is a late 18th century building that stands three storeys tall. It features painted stucco with projecting stone quoins that have V-joints, and a moulded cornice supported by brackets. The entrance includes an eight-panelled door divided into two halves, set within a doorpiece that has four Doric three-quarter columns on pedestals, topped with a moulded entablature and a pedimented cornice. Each upper floor has three sash windows, which are framed by moulded and shouldered architraves. This building is noted for its fine architectural character. It is part of a group that includes Nos 2 to 10 (even) and Nos 1 to 13 (odd), as well as Nos 14 to 18 (even) and Nos 30 and 30A Market Place.
