Description
Castlegate House is a mid-18th century detached house located on the east side of Castlegate. It features painted stucco with the lower storey in V-jointed ashlar, also painted. The building has a modillioned cornice and a slate roof, and it stands two storeys tall. The entrance is adorned with Doric pilasters, which support blocked entablatures and a pedimented modillioned cornice. The entrance includes a six-panelled door and a fanlight with a semi-circular head and curved interlaced glazing bars. On the ground floor, there are two 12-paned sash windows, and three more sash windows are located above, all set within reveals and externally fitted with dummy wood louvred shutters. This is a very good house that faces the entrance to the Castle.
