Description

Cardew House is a late 18th-century farmhouse constructed of red sandstone ashlar, resting on a chamfered plinth. The facade features painted V-jointed quoins, a string course, and a dentilled cornice of calciferous sandstone topped with a pediment. The roof is Welsh slate, hipped on the wings, with lower courses of sandstone slates, and ashlar chimney stacks. The main block is two storeys high and three bays wide, with lower, two-storey, two-bay wings to either side. A panelled door with a glazed fanlight is located centrally, set within a pilastered, pedimented surround. Tripartite sash windows with painted stone surrounds flank the entrance, and similar windows are positioned above. A sash window with glazing bars, also in a painted stone surround, sits above the entrance. To the right wing is a top-glazed panelled door within a painted stone surround. The wings also feature sash windows in painted stone surrounds. Associated outbuildings are not of architectural interest.
