Description

A farmhouse, now a private house, was built in 1724, with later additions from the 18th and 19th centuries. It is accompanied by former barns and byres. The farmhouse is constructed of coursed red sandstone, with calciferous sandstone V-jointed quoins, a chamfered plinth, and a shaped eaves cornice. It has a graduated Welsh slate roof with coped gables and kneelers, and ashlar chimney stacks. The house is two storeys high and comprises four bays. Over the entrance is a dated inscription “1724” along with the initials R. & A.N. The entrance itself is housed within a bolection-moulded eared architrave, and a moulded cornice. To either side of the entrance are tripartite sash windows in calciferous sandstone architraves. A sash window with glazing bars is situated above the entrance, also within an eared architrave. Casement windows are found to the right of the entrance on both floors, and are also within calciferous sandstone architraves. The former barns and byres are constructed of red sandstone rubble with Welsh slate roofs; some roof slates are of sandstone. The outbuildings flank the house, with the building to the right forming an L-shape. The barn to the left has a large C20 door within a projecting cart entrance. The barn to the right, nearest the house, has been incorporated into the main house; this section contains a C20 door in a stone surround and sash windows with glazing bars on both floors. A right-angle extension incorporates C20 plank doors and slit vents.
