Description
The Nag's Head Public House is a public house that likely originated as two late 17th century houses, which were converted into a single building in the early 19th century. It features incised stucco with stone dressings and has a steeply pitched green slate roof with a tile ridge, along with 19th century brick chimney stacks. The building is two storeys high and has four bays.
The two projecting bays on the left have an entrance with a moulded and chamfered surround that has a pointed head. Above the entrance is a small window with a moulded surround, which was probably originally a mullioned window but is now a two-pane casement. The left ground floor window is a composite four-sash window with a moulded surround and cornice. Above it is a moulded surround triple sash window with glazing bars.
The recessed right bays contain two double sash windows with moulded surrounds, which are connected by a common frieze with a moulded cornice supported by scrolled console brackets. The windows above and below have upper sashes with glazing bars and lower sashes that are two-pane. The building was referred to as the Horse's Head in 1790. The listing does not include the toilet block at the rear.
