Description

Orchard Lodge is a house, originally built as a lodge for Corby Castle. It likely dates from between 1812 and 1817, commissioned for Henry Howard. The house is constructed of dressed red sandstone with a slate roof featuring leaded hips, and incorporates a 20th-century brick chimney stack. A segmental-plan porch with Tuscan columns features a heavily moulded and dentilled cornice that extends around the sides. The porch’s entrance has a 20th-century door, flanked by two small windows. An L-shaped extension, contemporary with the main house, is positioned to the right of the porch and features a small sash window with single glazing bars. The building served as an entrance lodge until 1844, when a new road through the grounds of the castle required the construction of a new wall and entrance gates.
