Description
The Gate Lodge to Corby Castle, likely built in 1844 for Philip Howard, is located to the east of Corby Castle. It is constructed of dressed red sandstone with moulded dressings and features a graduated slate roof and a sandstone chimney stack. The lodge is two storeys high and consists of three bays. It has a tetrastyle Tuscan portico with columns set on high square bases and a dentilled pediment, which includes a central circular carved panel. The sash windows have plain surrounds with glazing bars, and the round arched central entrance features a six-panel door topped by a patterned fanlight. Above the entrance is a full-width decorative carved panel depicting Apollo on his chariot. The gate piers and screen wall associated with the lodge are listed separately.
