9/179 Courtyard range and gatehouse with barn adjoining, Warnell Hall

Courtyard range and gatehouse with adjoining barn. Probably early C16 with C19 alterations. Large blocks of mixed sandstone rubble under sandstone slate roof with upper courses of Welsh slate; stone chimney stack. Long low range adjoining Warnell Hall with gatehouse of slightly higher roof, originally part of the fortified courtyard range. C20 doorway and window nearest house with chamfered-surround original window to left under hoodmould. Late C17 2-light window over doorway. Gatehouse left has through segmental archway with internal niches. Upper floor is corbelled out at sides with 3-light round-arched stone-mullioned window. Adjoining barn has 2 original C16 upper-floor window openings; all other doors, lofts and windows are C19. Rear wall has 2 two-light stone-mullioned windows; wall to right appears to have been rebuilt at first floor level. Roof of barn in state of collapse at time of survey. Has G.V. with Warnell Hall.
