Description

This building, known as Nursery Cottage, is located adjoining the south end of Number 125 on Main Street in St Bees. It is a cottage that has been converted into a store and dates back to the 17th century, with later additions and alterations. The exterior is made of coursed rubble and is lime-washed at the front. The original thatched roof has been replaced with a graduated slate roof.

The cottage is two storeys high and was originally built with two bays, with a third bay added in the 19th century. The central plank door is set in a stone surround and is accompanied by a fixed 20th-century window to the left, both of which are sheltered by an original hoodmould with labels. On the first floor, there are two windows under a continuous original hoodmould, with the window above the door still featuring a stone mullion. The added bay on the right has a 19th-century window in a stone surround on each floor. At the rear, there is a full-height porch outshut that has a single door leading to the ground floor, with steps leading up to two doors on the first floor.
