Description
Simons Cottage is a canalside building that has been converted into a house. It dates from the early 19th century and is constructed of red brick in English bond, topped with a corrugated asbestos roof and featuring brick end stacks. The building has a two-unit central-staircase plan and stands three storeys tall with a two-window range. The main front faces the garden and includes a central three-panel door with an overlight, surrounded by a moulded wood frame and topped with a gabled hood supported by brackets. Flanking the door are canted bay windows. On the first floor, there are 20-pane sash windows with wooden lintels, while the second floor features two-light casement windows, also with wooden lintels. To the right, there is a two-storey extension. This building is likely the 'High House' of the former High-House Wharf that was located on the site, as indicated by earlier editions of the Ordnance Survey map.
