Description
Heyford Cottage is a farmhouse dating from the early 18th century, with later alterations from the 18th and 19th centuries. It is constructed of coursed squared ironstone and features a ridged tile roof with brick end stacks. The building has a three-unit plan, is two storeys tall with an attic, and has a three-window range.
The central entrance consists of a part-glazed six-panel door framed by a pegged wood surround, topped with a stone lintel that has a key-block and a straight hood supported by brackets. On either side of the door are three-light leaded casement windows, each with stop-chamfered wood lintels and moulded jambs from the original stone mullion windows. The left window contains old crown glass and catches, while the first floor features three-light leaded wave-moulded stone mullion windows with hood moulds.
The building has quoins and stone-coped gables with kneelers. The right gable end includes a blocked three-light stone mullion window on the ground floor, a similar two-light window on the first floor with original diamond-pattern leaded panes, and a one-light attic window with a moulded stone surround. Inside, there is a stone-flagged hall and chamfered spine beams, some of which have wedge stops. The cottage was formerly thatched.
