Description

The Old Sun Inn is a public house dating to the late 17th century, with 19th and 20th century additions and alterations. It is constructed of coursed squared ironstone with a plain-tile roof, decorative tile ridges, and brick end stacks. The building is arranged in three units, with two storeys and an attic, and has a three-window front. A central 19th century door is set within a gabled porch, and there is a three-light casement window to the left, retaining a stone surround and hood mould representing an earlier stone mullion window. To the right is a three-light stone mullion window with an ovolo-moulded surround and hood mould, and similar two-light windows are present on the first floor, also with hood moulds. Dormer windows in the attic feature two-light windows in the same style. The building has quoins and gables coped with stone, incorporating kneelers. A two-storey 19th century extension stands to the right, and a further 20th century extension is at the front. The interior includes chamfered spine beams with run-out stops, and an open fireplace with a chamfered bressumer.
