Description

A row of cottages located on Lodge Road, Little Houghton, dating to the late 17th or early 18th century, with alterations made in the 20th century. The cottages are constructed from coursed limestone rubble, accentuated with bands of ironstone, and have a thatched roof with brick ridge and end stacks. The row consists of 2-unit plans, with the exception of number 29, which appears to have a single-unit plan. The arrangement is of two storeys and nine windows. 20th-century doors are positioned on the left and right of centre, opening to numbers 25 and 27 respectively, and each has a wooden lintel; the lintel to number 27 is styled with a straight hood on brackets. The ground floor windows to the left of centre are 3-light casements, while the ground floor windows to the right of centre are 2-light casements, all with wooden lintels. The first-floor windows are predominantly 2-light casements, except for a 1-light casement centrally located on the first floor of number 25, all with wooden lintels. An entrance to the rear of the property is present at number 23, and a door is situated on the right side of number 29. Although the interiors were not inspected, it is noted that these cottages feature stop-chamfered spine beams with run-out stops.
