Description

Lodge Farmhouse is a house, formerly a farmhouse, dated 1702 and extended in the mid-18th century with alterations in the 18th century. It is built of coursed squared ironstone banded with limestone and has a 20th-century pantile roof with a stone ridge stack. Originally designed with a three-unit plan, it now has an L-shaped layout. The building is two storeys high with an attic and features a four-window range.

A central gabled full-height stair turret has an upright keyed oval window on the attic floor and a datestone above inscribed M/1A/1702. The ground floor has two-light casement windows to the right and a one-light casement window on the first floor, all with wooden lintels. The house has a chamfered plinth, an ironstone storey band, quoins, and stone-coped gables with kneelers.

To the left of the central stair turret, there is a two-storey and attic mid-18th-century wing that partly overlaps the turret. This wing is also made of coursed squared ironstone and has a hipped roof. It features a six-panel door in the re-entrant angle with an overlight and a moulded stone surround with a keyblock. The wing has sixteen-pane sash windows on the ground and first floors with moulded stone sills and surrounds, except for a narrow eight-pane sash above the door with a similar sill and surround. The eaves are wave-moulded stone, and there is a brick lateral stack on the left side with a stone base.

Inside, the original block contains ogee-stop-chamfered spine beams and an open fireplace with a bressumer, as well as a stone cellar. The mid-18th-century wing has raised and fielded panelling in the ground floor room and a fitted cupboard with a round-arched coved head and shaped shelves.
