Description
The Grange is a house located on Bugbrooke High Street, dated 1805 on the rainwater head, with origins from the mid-18th century and later alterations and additions. It is constructed of coursed squared ironstone with slate roofs and brick end stacks, featuring a double-depth plan. The building has two storeys and an attic, with a four-window range. To the right, there is a six-panel door with a fanlight, panelled reveals, and a moulded wood surround that includes panelled pilasters and an open dentilled pediment. The ground and first floors have 12-pane horned sash windows with stone sills and lintels that have keyblocks. The exterior is accented by quoins, a parapet with hollow-chamfered stone coping, and stone-coped gables. An extensive two-storey wing to the right features similar sash windows with flat-arched heads and is canted back along Ace Lane. Inside, there is a stone-flagged entrance hall and a straight-flight staircase with turned balusters. The drawing room contains a fine mid-18th century wood chimneypiece with an eared surround and rococo carved ornament.
