Description

No. 73 High Street is a farmhouse dating from the late 17th century, with alterations made in the 18th and 19th centuries. It is constructed from coursed squared limestone banded with ironstone, featuring ironstone dressings, and has a thatched roof with blue brick and red brick stacks at the rear and on the ridge. The building is L-shaped, with two storeys and an attic, and has a three-window range facing the street.

The front elevation includes a central two-light casement window with a moulded stone surround and a hood mould that originates from an earlier stone mullion window. This is flanked by two three-light casement windows, which also have similar stone surrounds and hood moulds. On the first floor, there is a two-light ovolo-moulded stone mullion window in the centre, a similar three-light window to the left, and a three-light leaded casement to the right, which retains the moulded stone jambs of the original window and a wooden lintel. The building features a rendered plinth, quoins, and stone-coped gables with kneelers.

At the rear right, there is a wing that has a part-glazed central door with panelled reveals, a reeded wood surround, and a straight hood, flanked by three-light leaded casements. The first floor of this wing has similar two-light windows set in eyebrow dormers. Inside, the farmhouse has chamfered spine beams.
