Description

A house dating from the late 17th century, located on Staverton Manor Road. The house is constructed of coursed ironstone rubble with a tile roof and a brick stack positioned to the right of the centre. It is arranged in an L-shape, originally with three bays, but altered. A 20th-century gabled stone porch with a 4-centred moulded hood arch and a ribbed plank door is situated in the second bay from the left. To the left of the porch is a 2-light casement window with a wooden lintel, and to the right is a 2-light stone-mullioned window with a straight-moulded stone hood. A single-light window with a moulded stone surround is in the second bay from the right, alongside a 20th-century three-light casement window with a wooden lintel in the right bay. The first floor has 20th-century three-light casement windows with wooden lintels. The gables are coped with kneelers. The right side of the house features 3-light stone-mullioned windows with square hoods to both the ground and first floors, along with a similar 2-light window to the attic. The left side has two 2-light stone-mullioned windows to the ground floor, a 3-light stone-mullioned window to the first floor, and a matching 2-light window to the attic. Rear elevations feature 2- and 3-light stone-mullioned windows to the ground floor. A wing extending from the right side at the rear, built in the 17th century using similar materials, has two storeys and an attic, with two bays. It contains a 2-light stone-mullioned window in the left bay and two 20th-century one-light windows with plain stone surrounds to the right. A canted oriel window of five lights with stone mullions is present on the first floor of the right bay, alongside a 2-light stone-mullioned window on the left. This wing also has a coped gable end with kneelers. The interior includes stop-chamfered beams on the ground and first floors. Several 17th-century fireplaces with moulded stone four-centred arches are found in the ground and first floor rooms, though these are reputed to have been acquired around 1900. The house is believed to have been restored around 1900, and several of the 17th-century stone-mullioned windows are said to have been replaced at that time. A collection of photographs dated 1894, 1910 and 1918 are preserved at the property.
