Description
Number 23 and William F. Gardner's shop, located on the northeast side of High Street in Welford, is a house and shop built in the early 18th century and remodeled in the early 19th century. The structure is made of cob with a brick facade and features a corrugated metal roof. Originally designed as a two-unit house plan with an adjacent shop, it stands two storeys high and has a five-window range at the first floor, showcasing sashes with glazing bars set under flat rendered arches.
To the right, there is a six-panelled door with panelled reveals, flanked by 19th-century canted bay windows. To the left, a 19th-century shop window features arched lights and a central door, while a sash with glazing bars is positioned at the far left. There is also a single-unit 19th-century brick extension on the far left. The building has brick stacks located at the ridge and end. The rear wall is made of cob and includes one leaded light casement window on the first floor.
