Description

Lovells House is a house dating from the late 17th century and the mid-18th century. It is constructed of squared coursed lias stone with a timber frame to the rear, and has a slate roof. The house follows a 3-unit plan with two storeys and attic space. The front elevation has a 3-window range of casement windows with glazing bars, set beneath wooden lintels concealed by rendering. A part-glazed 4-panelled door with a hood is located to the left of the centre. The roof has ashlar gable parapets and kneelers, and large brick stacks are positioned at the ridge and ends. The rear of the house features small-framed timber framing with rendered infill panels, and includes one sash window with glazing bars. Internally, a room to the right of the entrance has an open fireplace with a moulded bressumer. All ground floor rooms have moulded and chamfered ceiling beams. The first-floor landing has moulded wood brackets supporting an eaves beam of the timber-framed rear wall. A dogleg staircase leads to the attic. Some original roof timbers and timber framing are visible between the attic rooms.
