Description

Two and four Church Lane are an early 18th-century pair of houses, later remodelled in the late 18th century. The construction is a mix of timber frame and brick, with a corrugated metal roof. Originally built with one and two-unit plans, they now present a five-window facade of varying sizes. Some casement windows retain glazing bars, and those in number 2 are set beneath shallow brick arches. Number 2 has a six-panelled door with overlights, also under a shallow brick arch; number 4 has a plank door, similarly protected. The roof varies in height, with a brick stack positioned at the ridge. Originally timber-framed, the frontages were re-faced in brick during the late 18th century, with some evidence of later window replacement in number 2. The rear elevation reveals some exposed timber framing with rendered infill panels. A cob wall built on a lias plinth is attached to the left side of number 4.
