Description

Kilsby United Reformed Church, built in 1784, is a chapel made of coursed squared ironstone with a corrugated asbestos tile roof. The building has two storeys and three bays. On the ground floor, there is a central two-light casement window, with its lintel covered by a board that displays the times of services. There are doorways on either side, each featuring a wooden lintel and a six-panel door. The first floor has three two-light transomed windows, also with wooden lintels, and a semi-circular window with a stone surround and keyblock in the gable. The gable end is coped.

Inside, there is a pulpit with a canopy from the 18th century and a panelled dado around all walls. A gallery supported by three wooden Tuscan columns features a panelled front, with the upper part now partitioned to create a schoolroom. The pews date from the late 19th century. A wall tablet commemorates Thomas Strange, noting that he settled in Kilsby in 1753 and died in 1784, and that he contributed to the construction and improvement of the congregation. This building was formerly a Congregational chapel.

Adjoining the church on the left is a late 18th-century cottage made of brick with a slate roof and a brick stack. The cottage has two bays and two storeys. It features a doorway with an arched brick surround and a four-panel door in the right bay, along with two blocked windows with similar brick surrounds to the left. There is a carriage entrance with a wooden lintel and plank doors in the left bay, and two-light casement windows with wooden lintels on the first floor. The interior of the cottage has not been inspected.
