Description

The Old Rectory is a house dating from the 18th century, which incorporates earlier work and was remodeled around 1840. It is built from coursed limestone and ironstone rubble, topped with a slate roof and features brick stacks. The building has an L-shaped plan, is two storeys high with an attic, and consists of three bays.

At the center, there is a gabled stone porch from the 19th century that includes a four-centred arch and a fanlight with "Gothick" glazing bars. The inner doorway also has a fanlight and 19th-century glazed double doors. On either side of the porch, there are sash windows with plain stone frames. A plain string course runs along the first floor level, where the sash windows are adorned with 19th-century square stone hoods. The building has a moulded wood cornice and overhanging eaves with scalloped wooden bargeboards.

At the rear, there is a lower wing that projects from the left, likely dating from the 17th century but altered in the 19th century. This wing is two storeys tall and features four large stone buttresses. The ground floor has a five-light window with moulded wood mullions, while the first floor has 19th-century windows with square stone hoods and small gables. Inside, the rear wing has been remodeled in the 19th and 20th centuries, but the ceilings still retain chamfered joists.
