Description
Grafton Lodge is a farmhouse that was formerly a hunting lodge, dating from the 16th century with alterations from the 18th and 19th centuries. It is built of coursed squared limestone and ironstone, topped with plain-tile roofs and features brick end and ridge stacks. The building has two storeys and an attic, with a four-window range in a T plan layout. The central entrance is a panel door set in a 19th-century porch with a lean-to roof. There are three-light wood mullion and transom windows on both the ground and first floors, all with wood lintels, and a blocked window is located above the porch. The lodge has a chamfered plinth, and the rear wing has similar windows. The massive end stacks are made of thin red brick and display flared header diaper patterns, with tall thin rectangular brick flues. A 20th-century extension is present at the rear right. Inside, the lodge features chamfered spine beams, an open fireplace with a chamfered bressumer, and parts of ovolo-moulded wood mullion and transom windows that have been incorporated into the internal staircase hall.
