Description

The Horse Block and attached stable is a 17th-century cottage located on The Green in Staverton. The building is constructed from coursed ironstone rubble and features a nogged brick cornice, an old tile roof, and brick stacks. It has an L-shaped plan and consists of two storeys with an attic. The cottage has two bays, with a gabled bay on the right.

The entrance, situated in the right bay, includes a moulded wooden doorcase with corner roundels, a flat hood supported by scroll brackets, and a four-panel part-glazed door. To the left of the entrance is a two-light casement window with a wooden lintel. Above this, there is an oriel window supported by three stone brackets, which features a moulded stone cornice and a two-light wooden casement. The dormer has a hipped roof and an old iron casement. The gable end is coped and has a stack at the apex. On the right side, there are three-light casement windows with wooden lintels on both the ground and first floors.

The interior has not been inspected but is said to include an open fireplace. The adjoining stable, built in the 19th century, is made of coursed squared ironstone and has been rebuilt in brick at the rear, with a tile roof and brick stacks. It features three three-pane windows with wooden lintels and brick jambs on the side facing the road. The interior of the stable has also not been inspected.
