Description
No. 72 High Street is a house that was formerly a farmhouse, dating from the late 17th century but with older origins and 20th-century alterations. It is constructed of coursed squared ironstone and has a concrete tile roof with brick end stacks. The building is L-shaped and has two storeys with a two-window range. The front, which faces the street, features two blocked windows on the ground floor, including one to the left that has three lights with stone mullions. Above, there is a small two-light casement window with a moulded stone surround, and to the right on the first floor, there is a three-light leaded casement window. The building has quoins and stone-coped gables with kneelers. There is a 20th-century single-storey extension to the right that includes a front door. The right gable end has a three-light ovolo-moulded stone mullion window on the first floor. At the rear right, there is a two-storey wing with similar two- and three-light casement windows featuring wood lintels. Inside, the house has ogee-stop-chamfered spine beams and an open fireplace with a cambered stop-chamfered bressumer, as well as a collar-truss roof.
